Period view of Confederate navy ship Steam Ram Stonewall

Built by Arman at Bordeaux, France. Launched 21 June 1864 but sold to Denmark. Through a lot of diplomatic maneuvering, she was actually commissioned under the Confederate flag in Jan 65, but did not reach the Confederacy before the end of the war. She was surrendered to Spanish authorities at Havana, Cuba, and turned over to the United States, which sold her to Japan where she became first the Kotetsu and then Adzuma. Commander: Capt. Thomas J. Page
