The Cork River 1841 This is a lovely old Irish engraving titled "Cork River . (From Below the Glanmire Road.)." The print dates from 1841 when it was published in a collection of Irish topographical views. It is in excellent condition. This was engraved from an original drawing by William Bartlett. Price : $30 Item 5441 William Bartlett was born in Kentish Town, London on 1809. The young Bartlett was apprenticed to John Britton ( 1771-1857).He became one of the foremost illustrators of topography of his generation, traveling not just throughout Britain, but to the Americas in 1839/42. In the 1840's he traveled extensively in the Balkans and Middle East. He died of fever on board ship returning from his last trip to Israel in 1854. His works are today highly prized for their beauty, accuracy, and superb composition. |
