Dumfries Market Place

This is a genuine antique engraving published in a Robert Burns biography in 1846. It is in excellent condition and is titled "Dumfries, Market Place." It shows a view of the town center and 18th century marketplace - an authentic view! Dimensions of the print area are, minus margins, approx. 5.50 by 3.75 and the overall size of the sheet is approx. 10.75 by 8 inches. This is not a reproduction or reprint. It is a vintage engraving, over 155 years old and guaranteed to be as described.

David Octavius Hill, a native of Perth, was devoted to improving the arts in Scotland. He published the first lithographic views of Scotland in "Sketches of Scenery in Perthshire", and also created lithographs for "The Works of Robert Burns." He also established the Scottish Academy of Painting. He also was a pioneer of Scottish photography, working as Hill and Adamson, with Robert Adamson.
