Jefferson Davis

This is a large vintage woodcut engraved portrait of Jefferson Davis dating from 1895. The engraving is in very good condition and shows the President of the Confederate States during the Civil War. The floral design around the portrait is comprised of sugar cane stalks, tobacco leaves, cotton balls, and magnolia blossoms, all plants associated with the South. The caption beneath the engraving describes his birth in Todd County, Kentucky, his West Point education, political and military career
The engraving measures approx. 11 by 14 inches and was published in Frank Leslies Illustrated History of the Civil War in 1895. The engraving was printed from the original woodcut blocks used to produce the image when it originally was published during the Civil War. On the reverse side of this portrait is an engraved view of Union soldiers engaged in the battle for Fort Donelson in Tennessee.
<p>The print is larger than the bed of my scanner so it only appears cropped at the edges. This
is not a modern reproduction or reprint. It is a vintage print, over 105 years old and guaranteed to be as described.
