Rail Shooting on the Delaware River 1853 Gleason's Pictorial

An interesting old engraving published in Gleason's Pictorial in 1853. It is in excellent condition and is titled "Rail Shooting." It shows a hunter pursuing rails, a kind of water fowl,  in the shallows and weedy shores of the Delaware River. This is a very fine 19th century hunting scene. The engraving measures approx. 9.25 by 6.50 inches and is accompanied by an article describing the technique used to hunt these small game birds. It appears on a full uncut front page of the paper which includes the engraved view of Boston harbor as the masthead, with the full page measuring approx. 15 by 11 inches. It is dated December 3, 1853.

This is not a reproduction or modern reprint. This is a a 150 year old engraving and article on rail hunting along a major American river in the mid 19th century.
