"Virgil's House Brindisi."

This is a vintage engraving dating from 1879 when it was published in "Picturesque Europe", a premier 19th century illustrated travel book.  The print is in very good condition and shows a detailed view of the ruins of the ancient home of Roman poet Virgil, in the harbor of Brindisi on the Aegean Sea. Women doing their daily chores and children playing can be seen in this antique print. These 19th century engravings are renowned for their details and historical accuracy.

An exquisite old print!

Engraved by C Bertrand from an original drawing by C. Werner ,the dimensions of the print area are, minus margins, approx. 8.50 by 6 inches.  The overall size is 12.50 by 9.25 inches. There is a bit of age toning around the edges of the print. It is printed on a heavy stock paper, blank on the reverse side. This is not a reproduction or reprint. It is a vintage steel engraving, over 125 years old, and guaranteed to be as described.
